LASIK Technology

LASIK Technology – Eric D. Donnenfeld, MD, FAAO

Eric Donnenfeld, MD, FAAO, is among the few eye surgeons in the country to offer several advanced technologies for laser vision correction. Having participated in the initial clinical studies that led to FDA approval of excimer laser platforms, Dr. Donnenfeld continues to be instrumental in ongoing clinical research of surgical lasers for optimal vision correction outcomes. As a result, Dr. Donnenfeld often has access to leading-edge technology years prior to other medical professionals. This is why more than 1,000 eye doctors and their families have chosen to have Dr. Donnenfeld perform their LASIK.

Dr. Donnenfeld is on the Advisory Board of the three major excimer laser manufacturers, including VISX, Alcon and Bausch & Lomb. He was also an FDA investigator for the Verisyse phakic IOL, the Tecnis Multifocal and the IntraLase femtosecond laser.

As an experienced cataracts and LASIK Long Island surgeon, Dr. Donnenfeld strongly believes that optimal surgical outcomes are achieved through the combination of the latest technology and customized treatment plans. When performing laser eye surgery on patients throughout the Tri-State region, Dr. Donnenfeld uses one of three state-of-the-art excimer laser platforms, depending on the individual needs of each vision correction patient. In fact, Dr. Donnenfeld uses the most advanced technology, which is identical to the technology used on Navy pilots and NASA astronauts.

VISX Star S4IR

The VISX Star S4 excimer laser integrates the unique diagnostic data collected from the WaveScan WaveFront System with several leading-edge technologies to deliver safe and precise corneal reshaping outcomes.

  • Iris Registration (IR) – Ensures proper alignment of the treatment site with the surgical laser. That is, if the patient moves, the laser automatically follows the patient to ensure optimal treatment.
  • Variable Spot Scanning (VSS) – Provides a range of laser beam sizes, thereby preserving corneal tissue
  • Variable Repetition Rate (VRR) – Delivers treatment at varying repetition rates for safe eye surgery
  • ActiveTrak Automatic Centering – Automatically aligns the laser with the center of the pupil
